Acknowledging Shuniang

Since ancient times, mushroom farmers have worshipped mountain gods, recognizing a tree as a mother for their children’s healthy growth. They also visit the Xiyang Temple to worship Wu Sangong before shiitake cultivation.

Vows to god & Blessings

A custom of redeeming vows involves carrying the shiitake god to the ancestral house during festivals. This allows the god, Gushen, or the incense burner to ‘watch’ the Gumin Opera performed by shiitake farmers.
